They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also quiet and operates while you're at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to change the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek automatic vacuum and mop robot cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and an automatic vacuum cleaner and mop bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and provide more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some extra cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and cleans and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. And you can set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
